Gary, a cartoonist and painter living in Henrico, Virginia, draws the cartoon panel "Pluggers" for Tribune Media Services. The feature appears in about 75 papers nationwide, including the Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Denver Post, St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Panama City News Herald and Richmond Times-Dispatch. Gary also does the drawing for the comic strip "Shoe" which appears in about 650 newspapers worldwide and is distributed by King Features Syndicate. For over 30 years, he was the editorial cartoonist for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. His editorial cartoons were also syndicated by King Features to 450 newspapers nationwide. From 2000 to 2007, he illustrated Dave Barry's weekly humor column, also for Tribune Media Services. He retired from drawing editorial cartoons in 2009, and is now concentrating on a painting career in addition to his comic strip work. A native of Panama City, Florida, Gary attended Drummond Park Elementary, Mowat Junior High, and Bay High. In 1970, he graduated from Gulf Coast Junior College, and received a Bachelor's degree in studio art from the University of West Florida in 1972. When not painting or drawing cartoons, Gary enjoys attempting toplay the alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and piano.
