BooksALIVE! History

BooksALIVE! began in the summer of 1999 and has grown into one of the most respected event series of its kind from Jacksonville, Florida to Jackson, Mississippi.

Past keynote speakers have included several New York Times bestselling authors, a Pulitzer Prize winner, a Governor, a United States Congressman, a Presidential candidate, and a “60 Minutes” network producer (who is currently a Senior Vice President of the Country Music Network).

In 2008, the festival partnered with Florida State University and offered one entire day of Creative Writing workshops featuring published instructors and award-winning writers. (The separate day of Creative Writing Workshops has discontinued.) While more than 500 people take part in booksALIVE! every year, participation surpassed the 1,000-person mark when the 2008 school lecture tour was implemented.

Readers, writers and the media come from hundreds of miles away to spend time with others who appreciate books and everything they represent. Participants leave with new ideas and knowledge, new and renewed friendships.
