Kay has had an interesting and varied career. Her first real job was with the U.S. Department of State. After paying her way through college, she began working as an elementary school teacher. She made this decision early in high school after observing her favorite teacher. Kay thrives on promoting educational advancement and literacy. Kay left education and set out to complete an intense and grueling eighteen month General Motors dealership training program in Flint, Michigan. Successful for many years, Kay was the first and only black female Oldsmobile dealer in those years (1980's). Kay sees herself as an ordinary person who has been and still is blessed with extraordinary opportunities such as recently publishing her first children's book: Poppy can you count the waves? (2008). Kay also published teaching aid for parents and teachers to go along with the book. The book is a great resource for illustrating life skills such as being confident, resourceful, independent, self-sufficient, and curious.
